Analogy

Last Tuesday we learnt about Analogies, 'a statement that explains or describes an event or a mental construct by showing that it is similar to something else'. The teacher asked us to give examples of "Argument by Analogy", and i said;

"Gary's father went bold at the age of 28 years, Gary will also go bold at age 28."

As an argument of Analogy, we could reject this statement, because
  • Gary's father grew up in different conditions than Gary.
  • They both grew up eating different food, so they have different nutrition.
  • Gary's father had to leave school and work as a laborer at an early age.
  • His being in hot, sunny conditions may have increased his chances of being bold.
  • Gary could have taken to his mother's side of genetics, and have perfect hair.
  • Gary has the advantage of modernized hair products, which will help him keep is hair line.
